Alliance Medical Center was founded in 1971 by community volunteers who saw a need for a clinic to serve migrant farmworkers and their dependents. In the last 37 years we've grown steadily, and we serve all members of the community. Our Healdsburg headquarters is a “one-stop healthcare” facility, offering medical care, dental services, diabetes management, pediatrics, immunizations, dermatology, family planning, psychology, behavioral health, chiropractic, podiatry, and more. Our Windsor facility is expanding each month. Alliance Medical Center is a true safety net for Northern Sonoma County, providing affordable health care to the community. Many of our patients would be using hospital emergency rooms for their healthcare without our efficient and affordable system. Alliance is a registered non-profit organization, and is accountable to the communities we serve.

The Birth of California Raisin Country 18th century Spanish missionaries in Mexico moved into California and helped farmers grow grapes for wine. 1851 A marketable muscat for raisins, the Egyptian Muscat, was grown near San Diego. Since the area didn't have sufficient water supply, farmers moved to the San Joaquin (wah keen) Valley which has a mild climate and extensive irrigation system perfect for the art of viticulture. 1873 Legend says California's first raisin crop was grown by nature, not farmers. A massive heat wave hit the valley before harvest, and most of the grapes dried on the vine before farmers could pick them. 1876 Scottish immigrant William Thompson grew a seedless grape variety that was thin-skinned, seedless, sweet and tasty. Today 95 percent of California raisins are made from Thompson seedless grapes. Late 1800s Armenians descended from the first founders of vineyards in Persia began settling in the San Joaquin Valley. The area now supplies raisins for nearly half the world, making it the largest producer anywhere.

Winemaking has been a source of pride and livelihood for our family for over 100 years. Beginning in Italy with my grandfather and continuing today with our daughters, we now have four generations that have enjoyed the rigors and pleasure of grape growing and winemaking. Today, our winery is located on the bench land of the Dry Creek Valley near Healdsburg, California, and is named for our two daughters, Monica and Claire. Our vineyards are head pruned in the Italian tradition, the crop is managed to insure intense varietal flavors. We strive to create hand crafted wines that express both the characteristics of our land, as well as our stylistic preferences. These wines are our first commercial offerings.

Our goal at Bartz-Allen is to produce the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines from the Sonoma Coast appellation. Proprietors Tim Allen and Rachel Bartz Allen created Bartz-Allen Winery to share their love of fine Burgundian style wine.

Cooking homemade Italian food is a rich part of our family history. It all began with the recipes our grandmother Mary Fazio served in the "shack". Mary Fazio was born in New York City to immigrants of Ischia, Italy, a small island just west of Naples. In 1959, Mary took her own pots and pans from home, $700 savings and a passion for great Italian food to start Mary's Pizza Shack and the restaurant became an instant success. "I love my customers," she would say. "I want to take care of them. I guess I just love people." Mary proved that everywhere she went. At grocery stores and local shops, she was notorious for scribbling her signature on a napkin for locals and friends, valid for a free pizza.

We're doing that at Pezzi King and we'll continue to strive for and achieve excellence in everything we do."

The Talty story starts years ago with my father, William Talty. He was the first to introduce me to "Zinfandel Country", and it was with him that I learned and practiced the fine art of winemaking. It had always been our dream to own a winery; unfortunately, we were unable to bring that dream to fruition prior to his unexpected death in 1993. My family and I bought our vineyard in 1997 and named it in his honor.

The very first newspaper in Santa Rosa, the parent of today's Press Democrat, was begun in 1857, just three years after Santa Rosa was chosen as the seat of Sonoma County and seven years after California became a part of the United States. Called the Sonoma Democrat this newspaper was a four-page weekly. Its name reflected the politics of the Santa Rosa and Russian River valleys, which were settled in the 1840s and '50s by farmers from Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee.

OUR STORY 'Dutch Bill' Howard was not Dutch, nor was his name William Howard. He was in fact, a Danish sailor named Christopher Thornassen Folkmann, born in 1823. Folkmann was serving as an able bodied seaman on the U.S. Ship St. Mary, which dropped anchor in San Francisco Bay in 1849. Unable to resist the lure of California's recently discovered goldfields, Folkmann jumped ship, stole a small boat and headed north, somehow acquiring an unclaimed timbered plateau that was to become the site of Occidental. In the early 1870's, when the North Pacific Coast narrow-gauge railroad was proposed, Howard granted the railroad company a free right of way through his property. In return, he was granted a free, lifetime railroad pass (the train often stopped at his gate for him), and the railroad station was marked with a sign which read 'Howard's.'

They have since established beautiful hillside vineyards on slopes overlooking the Dry Creek Valley and have successfully produced scores of delicious, full bodied award winning wines. The focus is on a unique highland corner of Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley. Here, grapes from the syrah, viognier, grenache blanc cinsaut, grenache, counoise and merlot grapes mature to a rich ripe perfection. Most Frick wines are Dry Creek Valley Appellation; a carignane is also produced from 100 year old vines in Mendocino County.

The Mueller brand was founded in Healdsburg in 1991, and Bob’s vision was to make small lots of premium chardonnay and pinot noir. As winemaker, Bob searched out specific vineyards in the Russian River Appellation. With his extensive knowledge of chemistry and biology he knew that the cold climate and the terroir of the Russian River Valley were the perfect growing grounds for pinot noir and chardonnay.

After careers of working long hours and long days in High Tech, we decided to give it all up to follow our passion and dream. That dream took us to Sonoma County where we bought hillside property and planted our own estate vineyards. After long hours, and long days we unveiled our first release: Our 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine was delicious! Full-bodied, food friendly and low alcohol made this a stellar wine! Following that, we released a Zinfandel and a yummy Vintage Cab-Syrah Port. First one in Sonoma County to offer a fortified wine! Our wines are pesticide free, high quality and wines from the heart!

Twelve years ago, Raymond Burr and I walked the rolling bench of Dry Creek Valley, the manzanita-covered foot of Bradford Mountain. Our dream took shape with the first plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon in 1986, and now comes to fruition with this brilliantly-complex wine. Only 1,040 cases were produced which have rested for 18 months in oak barrels before being bottled in November of 1992. I release this vintage in tribute to his vision and impeccable taste.
